Dong Energy has blown 35 unexploded objects from World War II in connection with processed to its Race Bank offshore wind farm at the English east coast.

High explosives, bombs of 500 kg and small rockets were among the surprising 40 findings that were found during the inspection of Race Bank site

Dong energy in 2018 will begin operation of it's new offshore in the English east coast and therefore they unexplode objects (UXO) rupture or remove.

Race Bank Cable route with 40 UXOs

Over 40 items of unexploded ordnance (UXO) from World War II have been safely detonated or removed from the Norfolk coast, having been discovered on the export cable route for DONG Energy's Race Bank offshore wind farm. 

During a large scale offshore inspection campaign on the Race Bank site, 41 UXO items were discovered, ranging from small rockets to larger 1,000lb bombs. The most notable item discovered was a German Luffmine B ground mine containing a net explosive (NEQ of 698kg of hexanite.

Over 40 wartime bombs found at windfarm site off north Norfolk coast

The finds were unearthed as contractors sank cabling to link the Race Bank windfarm with the shore.

The area was heavily used as a practice bombing range during the war.

And it was also where German aircraft dropped magnetic mines to blow up Allied shipping. 

The haul at the Race Bank site - 17 miles off Blakeney point and a similar distance from Lincolnshire - comprised 41 pieces of unexploded ordnance (UXO), ranging from small rockets to larger 1,000lb high explosive bombs.

Boom time for Dong at Race

Dong Energy has safely detonated or removed 41 items of unexploded ordnance (UXO) on the export cable route for the 580MW Race Bank offshore wind farm off the Norfolk coast.

The World War II UXO ranged from small rockets to larger 1,000lb high explosive bombs, and included  a German Luftmine B ground mine containing a net explosive quantity of 698kg of hexanite.

The company destroyed 36 live, high explosive-filled items at their current locations at sea using specialist contractors, while five items certified as free from explosives were recovered to shore, where they were safely scrapped in approved facilities.

41 Unexploded WWII Bombs Found At UK Offshore Wind Farm

Dong Energy have announced, that whilst surveying the site for their latest UK offshore wind farm, 41 unexploded world war two bombs were found.

 

Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm

The unexploded ordinance was found whilst Dong Energy were conducting a subsea survey, for the routing of cables, for its new Race Bank offshore wind farm.

The site, 17 miles (27km) off North Norfolk Coast, will contain 91, 6 mega watt wind turbines once complete, with a capacity to produce 580 megawatts (MW), enough to power over 400,000 UK homes.
